“Humor Health”

tips on how to up your laugh quota published in Already There

Laughter is the best medicine, yes, but it’s also the most accessible, most affordable, and most naturally occurring therapy for our stress-filled lives.

Humor, and its multiple biological benefits, is a tool we can use to seize more opportunities for connection and express who we authentically are. I share 3 ways we can get giggling in this piece written for Already There, a print-only publication.

Here’s a short excerpt:

Oddities, curiosity, playfulness, humor. Recognizing and engaging these things in our daily lives forces us … to strip away the layers of protection we’ve plastered over our authentic selves.

As we grew out of childlikeness and into adulthood, we went from being two years old, running in the backyard naked and unashamed, to being thirteen and dying of embarrassment while presenting a simple project in class. We asked these layers of self-consciousness and fear to prevent us from looking too weird to our friends, but in doing so, we also concealed what makes us great.

Our authentic selves are the greatest gifts we have to offer the world and learning how to embrace who that is, is the greatest gift we give ourselves.

Humor can help us get there.
