What do your playlist titles say about you?

What runs through your mind when you title a new playlist? Do you not care enough to even try and just let it be the first song you added to it? Or are your titles spot on?

  • “Roadtrip Vibes”

  • “My Cleaning Playlist”

  • “Dancing Time”

  • “Songs that Make Me Weep”

    etc.

Or maybe you go the vague and mysterious route. Are your playlist titles connected to a secret memory you’ve never whispered to another? Some random phrase like “weeping willow” or “Jupiter’s birthday” that with just a glance you alone know exactly the moment you’re slyly referring to?

The way people title their playlists is a distinct personality cue that I think should be a run-of-the-mill topic we cover with each other from now on. Like how we divide ourselves between dog and cat people, Marvel and DC, or coffee and tea, I think we could use our playlist titles as an intriguing clue into deciphering one another.

For instance, I titled a playlist “ding a ling” because it makes me laugh every time I scroll by it, and reading it makes me say it out loud, and saying it out loud makes me laugh a second time.

I have to get 400 laughs in a day, so I stay emotionally fit and healthy. What does this say about me? Perhaps I find funny words too easily amusing? I don’t know.

Are you even a person who creates playlists? Do you just go album by album or artist page by artist page? What kind of person are you if you do that? I want to know!

Do you play off your Liked Songs? I could go on. These questions are endless.

This is something I’m suddenly engrossingly curious about.

What does your Spotify say about you? We need a case study.
